On Saturday, July 18, Parliament House will host their annual South Beach Invasion night, featuring performances by well-known South Florida queens TP Lords, Erika Norell, Champagne Bordeaux and Shanaya Bright. ![]() This year, Parliament House celebrates their 40th anniversary as a gay resort, and there are lots of fun events in store. Don Granatstein and his wife Susan Unger saved the iconic resort from the brink of closure in the summer of 1999, and in the past sixteen years they’ve owned Parliament House, it has hosted some of Orlando’s largest gay parties, with live entertainment flying in from all over the country and the world to mingle with the resort’s loyal clientele. Michael Hodge and Bill Miller bought the resort and turned it into the place we all know and love today. In 1975, the complex became a gay mecca of sorts not just for Orlando’s community, but for people from around the world. For instance, rehearsing the bows for the first time brought out some over the top styles.ĭaddy Issues opens Friday August 4th at Footlight Theater.Parliament House, Orlando’s largest LGBT nightlife complex, was originally a motor inn serving travelers and vacationers. It was just as fun to watch the actors who performed with selfless abandon since there was no audience. Queen Levi ( Tim Garnham), Donald hires the ten-year-old kid ( Rhysee Silvestro) from downstairs to playĪudiences on a fun ride to remind us just how far we’ll goįor family. With the help of his ballsy best friend Henrietta ( Darby Ballard) and rising drag To get his family to stop kvetching, Donald needs a son. I had to resist drawing any furniture since it had been pushed around the stage to make room for set construction. We all waited with anticipation for a white door to arrive which went stage left. ![]() The cast sat in the audience for the first hour or so since Blue Estrella was working power nailing baseboards to the walls, framed show posters were hung on the wall with care. Walking in, we passed a drag queen bingo session going on at the bar. Pam Schwartz and I went to a dress rehearsal.
